Liberal Muslim group finds new place in Afghan society
The Hazaras, one of the most liberal Islamic ethnic groups in Afghanistan, have secured greater status in post-Taliban society, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The group faced abuse and ethnic cleansing at the hands of the Taliban, and oppression for centuries before their rule. However, some members of the group are now thriving under the government of President Hamid Karzai. Hazaras hold positions in Karzaiās cabinet and have access to higher education.
